I just came back from the Architecture Biennale 3 weeks ago.
I write to share a very good restaurant that you might be interested to pay a visit:
da Mamo (www.damamo.it) It's a small but nice & cosy restaurant in the heart of old Venice, just a stone's throw from Rialto Bridge and St. Mark's Square.
A local friend took us there. Food was delicious & sizzling hot, cooked with 1st grade olive oil & herbs, and most important - cooked with heart. The price was very very reasonable (much worth the $ than Italian restaurants in HK). We simply gave the place an encore after the first night!
ciao! enjoy your trip ... Venice is just so poetic! hope to share your pics here later.
Fresh: Thanks! I took many pictures today, will share with u here after I am back HK, as I didn't bring my computer to Europe.
LH: you are just wonderful! I am just wondering where I should go tmr for dinner, your note has come at the perfect moment!!! Great thanks & want to give u a big hug~ (do we know each other by the way?)
I went to San Marco & Cafe Florian today and had enjoyed good coffee & music. I almost burst into tears when I heard the music of cinema paradiso at the piazza - all my fav things were there at that moment, how can I not love this city?
oh, glad that the msg reached you in time. How many days are you spending in Venice?
Do not miss the The Peggy Guggenheim Collection as well as the Punta Della Gogana (inside by Tadao Ando @ 2009).
Another very charming building is Fondazione Querini Stampalia ( ground floor & garden by architect Carlo Scarpa in 1963 while recently Mario Botta renovated with new entrance design, bookshop & cafeteria)
The Cafe at Architecture Biennale (@ Giardini) provides another kind of spatial experience.
ooo.... just so much to see at Venice this year! Enjoy!
LH: unfortunately no time at all. i already left venice this afternoon and i am now staying in london. i traveled from the sunny to the gloomy side of the world and i got a flight delay because of the london fog, gosh~ already missing venice now :<
hey i really want to thank you again for your recommendation - went to the restaurant yesterday and the food was just great!!
i went to peggy guggenheim this morning (it's near the hotel i stayed) and the place was lovely. and yes, the cafe at giardini is quite cool, it's much better than the one at arsenale. i basically finished the two venues in a day from 10 to 6, gosh it's so hectic haha~
too bad that i can only read your msg now and have to miss Fondazione Querini Stampalia this year - but i made a promise to myself that i will come back again next year for the art biennale. hopefully i will have more time to explore the city. many ppl think venice is just a tourist city, but for me, every time i just wish i could stay longer there...
